‘Miracle Patient’ Credited to Paul’s Intercession
Testimony by Judy P.
In December 2003 my husband was diagnosed with cancer. He was referred to an oncologist to begin treatment. He underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatments for the next three-and-a-half months. In 2004, his right kidney and a portion of his colon and rectum were removed and a slow recovery followed due to complications. In 2006, cancer was found in both of his lungs, but the oncologist assured us that it could be treated with a new drug.
It was also in 2006 that my employer gave me a copy of the typewritten prayer to Paul Murphy that had been distributed by our diocese. I began saying the prayer daily.
A PET scan in October 2006 showed good results. The advice of the oncologist was, “Whatever you are doing, it’s working, so keep doing it.” The latest PET scan, in May 2007, showed that his lungs were clear (meaning spots were there, but no evidence of activity) and a very small spot on the liver that they didn’t think amounted to anything. However, based on my husband’s history, they ordered an MRI of the liver and the results were negative. The oncologist finally used the term “remission” at our January 18, 2008 appointment. Since April 20, 2008 Jim has continued with the medication and all CT scans have shown no further activity.
When the oncologist walked into our room this past April, he began by saying, “Jim, you’re my miracle patient.” He told us that sometimes a patient comes along whose condition cannot be explained by science or medicine. He said that spots in the lung, shown on the CT scan, are so small (less than one centimeter) that he cannot perform a biopsy, nor can he say for certain that they are, or are not, cancer.
There are a lot of details left out of the above regarding issues during recovery from the surgeries, and the many unpleasant side effects of the medication that my husband has to deal with on a daily basis. But the bottom line is, he has been blessed!
As an aside: during all of the trauma for the last four years, outside of a few sad and anxious moments, I have been strong for him and at peace most of the time. I attribute this to my faith and all the prayer support we have received.
Last summer we took a three-month RV trip with friends up to the northwestern states. We will leave soon with another couple for a four-month trip to the southeastern states.
I give all honor, glory, praise and thanksgiving to God and our Lord, Jesus Christ, through the merits and prayers of His Servant Paul Murphy!
