Cause for Canonization of Servant of God, Paul M. Murphy, MJ

Testimony of Favors Received Through the Intercession of Paul M. Murphy, MJ

Testimony by Maria

From the time i read about the life of Paul M. Murphy in the Catholic weekly El Visitante April 2004, i have felt a special attraction to him, for his joy, born of his total dedication to God and love for the most holy Mary. I spoke to my entire family about Paul, especially when i discovered, with emotion, that he was an architect. One of my three daughters, Sylvia, is also studying this same profession.

At that moment, i felt him sympathetic with the demands and intensity of this career. I thought that Paul would be able to understand the terrible anxiety and enormous preoccupation that my daughter had, especially to present the last projects of her first year of design. I have never before seen her so sad and insecure. She questioned her capabilities and talents but continued with redoubled dedication to her studies.

The day of her second to last evaluation, without her knowing, i asked, with tears in my eyes, Paul Murphy to intercede for her, that her excellent project would not be adversely affected by her emotional state, and that her presentation would flow smoothly.

Surprisingly, a few minutes before her presentation, according to what she later told me, she felt that all of her ideas came together in her head with great clarity. When she finished her presentation, she received very good remarks for her work.

I should mention that Sylvia pushed herself relentlessly in her work (including not sleeping at all before her tests). Her professor, although he liked her drawings and other projects very much, had been very exacting and severe in some of his critiques. This situation was what started my daughter's depression, which became worse every day.

For her final work, i once again sought recourse to Paul, in this case, with my daughter's knowledge of my petition.

The result was even more satisfactory.

She received an"A" in the class. In addition, she was lauded by her professor, who said she will be a very good architect in the future.

The joy and confidence returned to Sylvia's heart, although knowing she could find difficulties in studies and in other circumstances. However, now she can count on a friend in heaven. Paul Murphy helped her meet her goals, and he is an inspiration to continue in her vocation to be an architect.

Sometimes it is more difficult to explain the psychological healings than the physical ones. Nonetheless, the Grace of God is capable of transforming a man in his totality. God works marvels in a character and above all in our souls.

Since we obtained this blessing, we have taken on the job of telling everyone about the virtues of this outstanding young architect. We hope that our Holy Mother the Church will open his cause for Canonization, understanding that Paul Murphy lived his faith in a heroic manner. His simple life of prayer and service speaks very eloquently about true detachment from material goods, knowing always that the only aspiration is to be covered with the tenderness of the Divine.
