Cause for Canonization of Servant of God, Paul M. Murphy, MJ

Testimony of Favors Received Through the Intercession of Paul M. Murphy, MJ

Testimony by Rosa

When I read the book of the life of Paul Murphy I felt very moved. My eleven-year-old son and I cried at the finish. However, I didn't know then how very useful it would be for me to know about this great person who was Paul.

At the time, the behavior of my seventeen-year-old son was unacceptable. During the last three years his behavior had been progressively getting worse, to such a degree that on various occasions he could not even stand up because of all the alcohol he had consumed. He was still just a boy, but already his life was not good. He would arrive home late and drunk. He skipped school and graduated only by a miracle.

His whole life was a miracle because he was even driving a car drunk, which could easily have been fatal. He was rude and irritable when questioned about where he had been or where he had gone and with whom. He refused to answer. He was a case, which I could not control as his mother. The problem had gotten out of hand and my desperation reached the point that nobody except God could help me. For this reason I needed somebody close to Him to intercede.

Providentially, I knew various members of Miles Jesu and one of them invited me to go to Paul Murphy's tomb to pray the rosary. I accepted and during the petitions I could only think about my son Alejandro for whom I offered that rosary. And I did it with a sense of desperation, as if this was the only solution. The following Saturday I went again to the tomb of Paul Murphy and I offered the rosary for Alejandro. After we finished I went home very happy.

That week my son began to surprise me with his attitude. He asked permission to go out and even returned earlier than he'd been told to. With the passing of each day his behavior improved. I still continued to pray at the tomb of Paul Murphy, but I hadn't yet connected it with the change in Alejandro. Then I asked myself what was happening to my son, and I knew that Paul was interceding for him before God. There was no other explanation.

Now my son frequently brings home meals for my husband and me, and we sit at the table together talking about family things. Other times he looks for his younger brother to play with him. The most surprising thing to everyone in the house is that he has dropped the friends with whom he had been going out.

After three months of visiting the tomb of Paul Murphy, I know that miracles happen and have happened in our own home. I wanted to write about this experience because I know that in these times there are many mothers desperate about their children, looking for help and hoping for a miracle. Miracles can happen for anyone. Pray to Paul Murphy.
