Cause for Canonization of Servant of God, Paul M. Murphy, MJ

Testimony of Favors Received Through the Intercession of Paul M. Murphy, MJ

Testimony by Patti

Seven years ago my now 26 year-old nephew, Ryan, had a tumor removed near his ear.

This past October he went to a specialist, a doctor who is known as one of the best in the country. This doctor has studied and written articles about parotid tumors, he specializes in tumors on the neck and head.

Ryan's MRI in October showed the tumor had come back with what they call "spillage." He was told that he may have cancer, and because of the surgery he could be left with facial deformity and/or paralysis.

Not too long after his diagnosis, while praying the rosary in the chapel, I remembered that awhile back I had read an article in the Catholic paper about a young man who died almost thirty years ago, and some thought he would someday be declared a saint. I figured that we needed a miracle for Ryan, and asking this man to intercede just seemed like the best thing to do.

I contacted the editor of the paper who looked up the information and gave me the young man's name, Paul Murphy. The Miles Jesu Center is where Paul had lived. I called Fr. Foeckler at the Center and he sent me a book about Paul's life which I read and then sent to Ryan's mom. The book was passed around to members of my family in Michigan and we prayed to Jesus, Mary and Paul Murphy. I sent a picture of Ryan to Fr. Foeckler to be put on the altar at the Center. Everyone there was praying for Ryan too.

Here in Casa Grande and Arizona City we prayed that the MRI would be lost and he would need another MRI and that the tumor would be gone. Ryan's mom told me that a miracle to her would be no cancer, no facial deformity and no paralysis.

January 4th Ryan met with his doctor for the first time since the December 1st surgery. He had a silver dollar-size tumor removed. His doctor told him that Ryan's parotid tumor was the nastiest tumor he had ever seen. He went on to say that it was a miracle that Ryan could smile, that he could use his facial features because of how deeply embedded in the facial nerve that tumor was. During Ryan's appointment the doctor used the word 'miracle' three times! The tumor was benign and he has no facial deformity or paralysis! We are so grateful to Jesus, Mary and Paul Murphy for hearing and answering our prayers for Ryan.

This traumatic experience and final outcome has made all of us more aware of our wonderful connection to God.
